Fitzgeralds celebrate 60th anniversary

Don and Jo Fitzgerald are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary on Sept. 25. They fell in love at Waldo Lake while camping with friends and family; Jo was 15 years old, and Don was 17.

After Jo graduated from Creswell High School, they got married in a ceremony officiated by Rev. Norm Few at the Creswell Presbyterian Church.

Don was drafted into the Vietnam War, and he left for boot camp on the day of their first anniversary. After completing his tour, he was stationed in Germany, where Jo was able to join him. It was there that they welcomed their first child, Scott.

Following his time in the Army, Don began working at Weyerhaeuser in Cottage Grove. Two years later, they had their daughter, Connie. They built their own house in Creswell, where they still reside. Jo worked as a teacher’s assistant in special education at Creswell Middle School.

Over the years, both of them have enjoyed bowling, restoring (and driving, of course!) old cars, attending car clubs and shows, serving as deacons at the Presbyterian Church, playing cards, going to garage sales, taking road trips to casinos, and spending time with their family. They genuinely radiate true love.
