Unemployment insurance changes

According to a Sept. 8 update from Springfield Chamber’s Amelia Remington Corbari, the Oregon Employment Department (OED) is proposing new unemployment insurance (UI) rules that extend beyond the recently passed SB 916, which grants UI eligibility to striking workers for up to 10 weeks. The proposed changes would weaken job search requirements, introduce unlimited “employer attached” categories, and allow striking workers to meet work-search standards without seeking other employment.

Additionally, workers could limit job searches to remote positions only. The Springfield Chamber opposes these changes, arguing they could inflate costs for employers and undermine the UI system’s accountability. The Chamber will provide updates as the rulemaking process continues.
