Pleasant Hill High School hosts ‘Plowing down cancer’ fundraiser

PLEASANT HILL – Celebrate survivors and caregivers, remember those who have lost to cancer, and fundraise to fight back. These are the signature elements of Relay For Life.

The American Cancer Society, a leading cancer-fighting organization, presents the global walk that stands for cancer. Eugene-Springfield’s RFL is at Pleasant Hill High School this year, from noon until 10 p.m., on Aug. 23. The theme is “Plowing Down Cancer.”

Community members take turns walking laps around the track for a fundraising walkathon. Surrounding the track will be luminaria bags that get lit up after dark, for a memorable ceremony.

In celebration of survivors and caregivers, they are invited to walk a special lap following the presenting ceremony. They can also receive free swag, prizes, and snacks.

Check-in is required upon arrival; however, according to Kristen Salladay, the senior development manager at ACS, there is no deadline for registration before the event. Folks can sign up when they show up.

Food trucks and vendors like Chicken Bonz, Franz Grilled Cheese, Smok’n Gingers BBQ, Nothing Bundt Cakes, and King Whippy Ice Cream will be there to satisfy any hunger cravings.

A photobooth, DJ, inflatable obstacle course, and drawings for prizes are just a few of the activities happening.
