Champion Barbers eliminate Challengers in AAA Legion tourney

PORTLAND – The Eugene Challengers lost to the Portland Post 158 Barbers 7-3 on Tuesday at the Oregon AAA State Tournament at Joe Etzel Field in Portland.

The Barbers went on to take the state title with a 9-2 win over the Corvallis Gerding Builders Marketmen on Wednesday after an undefeated tournament performance.

The Challengers concluded their season with a 46-11 record and a third-place finish in Area 4. The Challengers’ bats went cold as they were out-hit by the Barbers’ 12 hits and two home runs. Connor Clift, Grady Saunders, Caiden Gould, and Aiden Hibler recorded the only four hits of the game for Eugene. Clift led with 2 runs and went 1-for-2. It was a challenging year for the Challengers, who lost several players to season-ending injuries.
