QB diary: Day 3

DAY 3: JUNE 27, 2025

An inside look at the summer schedule and travels of a top-flight quarterback prospect. Ryker Rohaley, a rising sophomore, will publish a daily diary from the Manning Passing Academy this week on Chronicle1909.com

Hello again. I write to you tonight after three grueling practices in the Louisiana 95-degree heat and humidity, something this Oregon boy is far from accustomed to.

West Lynn High grad and current Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt with Ryker.

Morning practice began at 8:30 and we wasted no time getting right in to drills. There are about 10 stations per field and you rotate every 10-15 minutes. You do everything from footwork and rollout drills to play action and pressure situational ball. Every station has a different college QB coach, and then you have a main coach you kinda stay with. Mine was Arizona State’s Sam Leavitt, which is very ironic because he played at West Lynn just a few years ago, our rivals at Sheldon. He noticed my Sheldon shirt and gave me a big dose of crap, but we were friends within minutes after that and joking around the rest of the day.

Afternoon session was arranged the same but with more throwing drills and we had receivers. I feel like I did really well today and got good praise from my coaches. Alabama’s Ty Simpson was one of my coaches and was super nice and humble.

I was able to meet several more superstar college players between sessions like Oklahoma’s John Mateer, Clemson’s Caden Klubnik and South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers.

Ryker met Clemson QB Caden Klubnik, who is expected to compete for the Heisman this year.

The final practice of the day was 7-on-7 competition, in which we destroyed the competition. Each QB got one drive. I threw one 40-yard deep seam for a touchdown! I was one and done for my drive but I was fine with that. Our coach was Kansas’ Jalon Daniels whose energy kept us going; best coach in camp!

One event left to end the night, which is my favorite event of the entire camp. It’s called Friday Night Lights. All 50 college QB coaches compete in challenges, routes, and accuracy. It’s the only place on earth where you can see all the current college QB legends compete against each other on one field. The Huskies’ Demond Williams won it all.

What a memorable day! I’m half asleep already and have to be up at 7 a.m. for an even longer day tomr. Stay tuned!!
