Dear Editor
Yes, we “enabled” the homeless by providing minimal secure, dry shelter, with privacy and independence. We enabled them to have safe working bicycles for transportation to work and services. We helped secure food, medicine, and social services. Being secure and dry has reduced stress, improving physical and mental health. The shelters have provided a stable location for social services to remain in contact. To date, five of the six individuals enabled have found permanent shelter, and three are working close to full time. We thank the individuals, organizations, and companies that have assisted us with donations and their time. To facilitate a faster transition to a more socially acceptable lifestyle, a secure, permanent location for the shelters is needed, along with access to water and toilets, to reduce stress.
