‘Please help’ – 1.2 million pounds of food will not be distributed this year

Your neighbors in Lane County – kids, adults, families and seniors – need your help now.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has canceled the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) food purchasing program, which supplies FFLC with about 15% of the food we provide to Lane County residents.

This is a staggering decrease of over 1.2 million pounds of food that we will not be able to distribute this year.

This program provides meat, eggs, fresh dairy, and produce — building blocks for healthy meals and some of the most cost-prohibitive items for people on a tight budget to purchase for themselves. There is no way to make up for the loss of these crucial products locally.

The cancellation of this important program comes at a time when community need is at an all-time high. Our partner pantries report a 101% increase in visitors needing food since 2022. Families are turning to local food pantries to help make ends meet.

A longtime donor has recognized the need in our community and is asking you to consider making a gift now, and is offering a $100,000 challenge match to help.

The end of the CCC program means FFLC will have to work harder with fewer resources to feed the 80,000+ people who rely on us.
