CANDIDATE COLUMN
After talking with my children’s teachers over the years, I believe that supporting families and encouraging their participation at school and ways to support their children’s learning at home is key in kiddo’s engagement and success at school. I don’t want to dictate or impose my viewpoints on any family, rather inform parents on positive ways to be involved with their children’s teachers and with school events. When kids know that their teachers and families care about their education, they do better. That care translates into more confidence and kids who don’t give up when things are hard. It’s an uphill battle for teachers and kids if families aren’t connected to schools. Teachers and families make great teams when they work together! In addition, building community support of our schools sends kids the message that adults care about them, that they matter, and builds pride in the work that they do.
