Weekend spotlights

■ If you’re looking to get your green thumb to work, check out the FOOD for Lane County Youth Farm Plant Sale on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 705 Flamingo Ave. in Springfield. There will be a selection of garden starts with veggies, herbs, and flowers. Credit and debit cards are accepted payments. The nonprofit also accepts SNAP/ Oregon Trail Card/ EBT for edible starts purchases and they match up to half, thanks to the Double Up Foods Program. 

■ For those who like to mix history and beer, the Axe & Fiddle at 657 E Main St. on Tuesday, April 8 will host the monthly History Pub from 5-6:30 p.m. The speaker is Karen Rainsong, the executive director of Singing Creek Educational Center. She will be talking about the Applegate family of Yoncalla and their relationship with the Kalapuya people of the area. Chief Halo of the Kalapuya tribe and Jesse Applegate were friends and the friendship continues to this day between descendants, Rainsong said. Inviting folks to hear more about this unique friendship. Bonus: There will also be a trivia game and a 50/50 raffle.

■ Meanwhile, in Creswell, the Chamber is gearing up for its annual Community Wide Yard Sale on Mother’s Day weekend – May 8-11. The Chamber boasts that there will be nearly 100 unique yard sales to browse. The registration deadline is April 21, Creswellians! Sign up at tinyurl.com/25CreswellYardSale.
