Illegal butane extraction lab nabbed east of Grove

COTTAGE GROVE – On March 5, Lane County Sheriff’s detectives and deputies executed a search warrant on a residence in the 32300 block of Woodson Lane, east of Cottage Grove, following a months-long investigation into an illegal butane THC extraction lab. Law enforcement has highlighted the dangers of such BHO labs, which can lead to severe explosions.

During the operation, authorities dismantled the lab and discovered 1.6 pounds of suspected cocaine alongside a stolen firearm. Two suspects, Jonathan Tyler Sirois, 38, and Brandon Charles Shaneyfelt, 35, both residents of Cottage Grove, were arrested. Sirois faces multiple charges including unlawful manufacture, possession, and delivery of marijuana and cocaine, as well as theft in the first degree. Shaneyfelt is charged with illegal manufacture, possession, and delivery of marijuana.

The investigation was supported by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Oregon State Police, and Springfield Police Department and benefited from funding from the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission’s Illegal Marijuana Market Grant (IMMEG).
