CRESWELL – On Monday, Feb. 10, around 2:09 p.m., passerby Larry Laitinen was driving south of Creswell when he captured this Mercedes Benz C-250 stuck on the railroad tracks a few hundred feet north of Davisson Road.
“I was southbound on HW-99 when I was surprised to see the car on the tracks!” Laitinen said.

According to Lane County Sherriff’s Creswell Sergeant Alex Speldrich, “The vehicle was traveling southbound on Highway 99 when he swerved to avoid a small animal,” believed to have been a house cat.
“He lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, went through a section of grass, and went up onto the railroad tracks,” Speldrich said. “His vehicle was stuck on the railroad tracks.”
Speldrich said the driver was the sole occupant and uninjured. The railroad company temporarily stopped train traffic until a tow truck removed the vehicle a short time later.
“About 4 p.m. the Mercedes Benz was gone,” Laitinen said.
He photographed this with his legacy 2008 vintage Nikon D300 DSLR camera using the Nikon 18-300mm f3.5-5.6 zoom lens. “I keep it in my car just in case I come across something interesting,” he said.
