Police Roundup: Speingfield fire, DUI arrests, internet crimes

Fire department investigating cause

SPRINGFIELD — The Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a fire in an occupied storage building on Friday, Feb. 7. Firefighters were dispatched to the blaze in the 5200 block of Daisy Street at 11:18 a.m. Engine 14 arrived two minutes later to find a working fire in a storage shed attached to a carport. The fire was quickly contained, preventing it from spreading to the nearby home. One person occupying the storage building was transported to a local hospital in serious condition. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Weekly Lane County Sheriff’s DUI arrests

• Feb. 5: Danielle Davis, 41, of Utah, was arrested for DUI and resisting arrest after erratic driving on Franklin Boulevard, requiring multiple deputies to detain her.

• Feb. 6: Jordan Wade Carper, 45, of Fall Creek, was arrested for DUI following a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Bob Straub Parkway and Daisy Street in Springfield.

• Feb. 8: Preston Marcus Nibblett, 22, of Pleasant Hill, was arrested for DUI after attempting to buy alcohol while intoxicated at a convenience store.

• Feb. 8: A juvenile driver involved in a single-vehicle crash off London Road in Cottage Grove was cited for DUI after being hospitalized for significant injuries.

• Feb. 9: Dani Sydney Lann, 51, of Eugene, was arrested for DUI after arriving at a dispute scene on Pheasant Boulevard.

All subjects were either lodged at the Lane County Jail or cited in lieu of custody.

Two men arrested for internet crimes 

EUGENE – Lane County Sheriff’s detectives arrested two men on multiple charges of encouraging child sexual abuse following separate investigations by the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.

On Feb. 6, detectives served search warrants at residences in the 100 block of Lea Avenue and the 2500 block of Willakenzie Road. Noah Alan Starkey-Gomes, 31, was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail on two counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the first degree and two counts in the second degree.

A second search warrant was executed at a residence in the 1000 block of Cinnamon Avenue, resulting in the arrest of James Watson Gilbert, 42. He faces ten counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the first degree and ten counts in the second degree.

The investigations, which are ongoing, currently indicate no local victims involved and stem from charges related to the possession of child pornography. 

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office received assistance from the Springfield Police Department, Eugene Police Department, Oregon State Police, FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Oregon Department of Justice in these efforts.
