Philip Michael ‘Mike’ Newman: June 9, 1944-Jan. 21, 2025

Philip Michael “Mike” Newman passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, in Eugene, Oregon. Born on June 9, 1944, in Bend, Oregon, to Philip and Mary (Hayes) Newman, Mike lived a life full of passion, service, and family love.

Mike grew up in Oregon, developing a love for the outdoors and mechanics. He attended Mt. Angel Seminary and graduated from Springfield High School in 1962. He furthered his education at Lane Community College and served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War.

After his service, Mike worked as a logger, racecar driver, and business owner specializing in custom car builds. He was a talented auto mechanic who poured his heart into his work.

Mike enjoyed going on car club road trips, restoring classic cars, and bowling. Known for his humor and generosity, he was a beloved figure in his community.

He is survived by his daughter Reilly, son Dane, grandson Roman, brother Tony, and former spouse Karen. Mike’s legacy lives on through his family and the values he instilled in them.

Mike’s life was marked by engines’ roar, loved ones’ laughter, and shared wisdom. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten. 

A memorial service will be announced later, with arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
