Colts roll on Senior Night, march into playoffs

THURSTON – The Colts streaked past Eagle Point 5-0 in their last regular-season game on Senior Night.

However, it didn’t seem easy at first. The Colts struggled in the first half, lacking energy and connection, which resulted in a scoreless first half. The Colts went into halftime 0-0.

“We definitely came out really slow today with little energy,” coach Jessica Cardwell said. “But then the girls did a great job responding to our challenges at halftime, being accountable, and coming out in the second half and going after it.”

And go after it they did. Emily Kranzush was the first to break the ice 10 minutes into the first half.

After a corner kick on Eagle Point’s side, there was a noisy fray in the penalty box, with the ball being ping-ponged from Eagle Point’s goalkeeper to Colts offenders for at least a minute straight.

Kranzush finally shut down this oscillation by tapping the ball into the net from the left side. Then, just four minutes later, Emmiana Gerdrum scored from the right side.

A minute later, Kranzush scored a second time from the left side at the 20-yard line off a free kick. Suddenly, the Colts had a 3-point lead in five minutes.

Seven minutes later, Kranzush scored again from the 20-yard line, and Macy Taylor scored the Colts’ final goal with eight minutes left. Senior goalkeeper Gabriella Montes had a total of three saves.

Eagle Point’s game sealed the Colts off at a No. 8 ranking and a 10-4 record. Their season earned them a hosting role for their first round of the playoffs on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Cardwell said she was satisfied with their final play results but emphasized that the first half signaled some last-minute polishing and fine-tuning as they marched into the playoffs.

“We’re gonna make sure we’re being consistent,” she said. “Making sure we’re coming out with high intensity and play both halves.”
