High School Sports Zone Previews: Oct. 10-16

Kicking off: Watch out for the Lions today against the Bulldogs. In 2023, the Lions beat North Bend 5-0. This will be a nice warm-up for their game against Marist Catholic next week. Look for junior ​​Emmanuel Rea, a shot-making returning player from the ’23 season and Lions GK Josh Burner.

No. 6 Cottage Grove Lions (5-0) at No. 40 Harrisburg Eagles (0-5)

Game facts: Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m….Location: 400 S. 9th St.

What2Know: The Eagles and the Lions are experiencing two different seasons: The Eagles have scored only 40 total points in their five games, going scoreless twice. Cottage Grove, meanwhile, is undefeated in Class 3A in its first season dropping down from Class 4A. Standouts Clayton Dewitt, Kaeden Grogan, Terran Stewart, and John Paulo Delima lead the Lions.

No. 18 Creswell Bulldogs (2-3) at No. 10 Sisters Outlaws (3-2)

Game facts: Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m….Location: 1700 W McKinney Butte Rd.

What2Know: While the Bulldogs are starting to rack up points and are on a winning streak midseason after a rough opening, Sisters just received a stinging loss from the Lions last week. Sisters has been a tough league opponent for the Bulldogs since it dropped to Class 3A in 2022. Hunter Mustin remains a key multi-use aspect of the Bulldogs’ offense and defense, along with QB Darien Dewey.

No. 39 at La Pine Hawks (1-4) at No. 33 Pleasant Hill Billies (1-4)

Game facts: Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m….Location: 84455 N. Enterprise Rd.

What2Know: The Hawks and the Billies have only one victory this season, and last year’s game was a close one – La Pine winning 26-25. The Billies will rely on big plays from junior QB Steven Bounds, leading rusher freshman Kai Davis and receivers Jacob Neely and Cota Aanrud.

No. 34 South Eugene Axes (0-5) at No. 30 Springfield Millers (0-6)

Game facts: Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m….Location: 875 7th St.

What2Know: While the Millers and Axes are winless, South Eugene has accumulated only 14 total points this season. The Millers have scored 111 points behind junior QB Noah Solo, Clay Rhoades and Brady Lo’ser. Also, the Millers have not lost to the Axes since 2019.

No.  21 Thurston Colts (5-1) at No. 29 Crater Comets (3-2)

Game facts: Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m….Location: 655 N. 3rd St.

What2Know: The Colts look to bounce back after their first-season loss – last week vs. Churchill. Thurston is 8-0 against Crater since October 2016. Offensively, Blair, Ashden Weiler, David Macdonald, and Matt Newell will show their teammates the way.
