COTTAGE GROVE — The family of Levi Foster is hopeful, after his suicide two years ago, that they can help other families of veterans dealing with tragedies.
Part of that healing process begins this weekend, Aug. 16-17, with the Levi Foster Rod and Custom Car Show at Cottage Grove CDJR (Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram). Money raised during the inaugural event will go to the VA of Lane County to assist with PTSD and suicide prevention.
The car show will feature five classes for show winners: Classic cars 25 years and older, modern cars, jeeps, trucks, and motorcycles. Dan Sperry, general manager of Cottage Grove CDJR, said he believes all four branches of the military will be represented, and the Easter Seals – which works extensively with the VA – will be on hand, too.
“We’ll have lots of food and entertainment as well,” Sperry said. “We plan to have over 60 vendors, including 10 food trucks, and KNND will be out here all weekend playing music.”
Sperry said there had been “great support”: for gift baskets, and that more than 30 raffles were planned for the weekend, as more than 50 businesses had donated over $4,000 worth of items. The festivities run from 11 to 6 on Friday, and 9 to 6 on Saturday.
