Shots fired, man arrested
SPRINGFIELD — Shortly before 11a.m. on July 31, Springfield Police Department officers responded to a shots fired call in the area of Fiesta Drive. Officers learned that Randy James Hamilton, 25, of Springfield, had fired a shotgun, which was recovered at the scene, into the floor of a Fiesta Dr. house.
Hamilton ran from the area with a woman, Madison Jennifer Bryant, 25, of Springfield, toward an apartment on Oakdale Avenue.
Officers contacted Bryant, who had several warrants for arrest, at the apartment and took her into custody. Officers made several attempts to contact Hamilton, who was believed to be in the apartment. When there were no responses observed, drones and officers entered the apartment and determined that Hamilton was not inside.
Around 2 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, SPD officers observed Hamilton at the same apartment at 885 Oakdale Ave. SPD deployed several assets including a K9 and crisis negotiators, who contacted Bryant. Officers detained Bryant and continued attempts to contact Hamilton, who was not responsive.
An SPD K9 and an assisting EPD drone entered the apartment and confirmed Hamilton was inside before officers entered and made verbal contact with Hamilton, who surrendered without further incident.
Hamilton was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail and was charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Menacing.
Person trapped, rescued on low head dam
SPRINGFIELD — Eugene Springfield Fire rescued one person from the low head dam in Glenwood on Saturday, Aug. 3. Notified that someone was trapped on the low head dam on the Willamette River near the D Street landing, Boat 5 staffed by Engine 5’s crew at the Gateway station arrived quickly and was backed up by Boat 6 staffed by Ladder 6’s crew. The individual, who was not wearing a life jacket, was successfully rescued without incident.
Quarry Road fire contained
SPRINGFIELD – Eugene Springfield Fire responded to a vegetation fire Tuesday evening near the 600 block of Quarry Road. Firefighters were alerted on July 30 to reports of fire in the brush near the water tower. Firefighters arrived to find the fire burning in vegetation near a power pole with an open fuse leading crews to preliminarily determine an electrical problem caused the fire. The fire was quickly contained before it could threaten nearby homes. Cooler weather and high humidity this week helped keep the fire in check.
