Cottage Theatre 1 of 6 in U.S. with ‘Tennessee’ premiere on stage
COTTAGE THEATRE — In a world premiere, on Aug. 9, Cottage Theatre will open “Tennessee Wet Rub” by Kim E. Ruyle for a three-weekend run. It is one of only six theatres in the country selected to be part of the American Association of Community Theatre’s 2024 NewPlayFest, and this play is one of six winners of a script contest that attracted more than 300 entries. Ophelia’s Place a safe space for girls to nerd out
EUGENE — On Sunday Aug. 25, Ophelia’s Place will be setting up GirlCon at the Farmers Market Pavilion, 85 E 8th Ave., Eugene. The event will be from 1-4 p.m., and is a place for girls ages 10-18 to share their “nerdy” passions with a guardian of their choice. There will be anime, cosplay, video games, art, technology, and more. Admission is free, and pre-registration is highly encouraged. Art Walk this weekend
SPRINGFIELD — Appreciate art with Emerald Art Center’s 2nd Friday Art Walk on Aug. 9 from 5-7:30 p.m. Artwork will include “Photographs from Cuba” by Paul Wood, “The Magical World of Macro Photography” by Katie Royce Zolezzi, “Lucid Translations” by Melanie Pearson, as well as works by Light’s Summer Youth Art Camp students and members of the Emerald Art Center.
Fliers can be found at all participating venues to guide art lovers. These venues include the Willamalane Adult Activity Center, Springfield City Hall, the Springfield History Museum, Made by You, Plank Town Brewing Company, Iris Vineyards Wine Bar, and Emerald Art Center.
Willamalane will provide a bus to make transportation to the Willamalane Adult Activity Center easier. The bus will pick up participants at the bench outside the Emerald Art Center.
Cottage Grove Rotary’s annual fundraiser nears
COTTAGE GROVE — The Rotary Club of Cottage Grove will be hosting its annual Black/White Under the Oaks fundraiser on Sunday, Sept.15 from 5:30 p.m.- 8 p.m. at Shady Oaks, 77380 HWY 99, Cottage Grove. Event includes music, a buffet and dessert dash, auctions, and a no-host wine and mocktail/cocktail bar. Participants can reserve a table or seat, or make a donation, through the Cottage Grove Community Foundation (CGCF). All proceeds donated through CGCF will be used for the Rotary Club of Cottage Grove scholarship fund. Participants can also donate directly to the Rotary Club of Cottage Grove, however those donations will not be tax deductible.
The Rotary Club of Cottage Grove so far this year has:
■ Awarded $16,000 in college scholarships
■ Funded over $5,000 in youth leadership camp scholarships
■ Donated towards disaster relief
■ Supported rural school literacy
■ Distributed holiday gifts to local elderly shut-ins and to area children
■ Assisted local organizations with impactful projects
New Relief Nursery facility on to Phase 2
DRAIN — The new Family Relief Nursery facility in Drain has finished phase one of its renovation plans.
The renovations included installing LVT flooring, cabinets, energy efficient windows and appliances, a new ductless HVAC system, as well as a new full kitchen, office space, and a second classroom. The new building is also fully ADA accessible and now includes ADA parking after the renovation. Phase two renovations will focus on the exterior of the facility and will begin this summer.
Family Relief Nursery is also looking for donations of personal hygiene products, diapers and pull ups, clothes for both children and adults, and other household items.
Family Relief Nursery also recently added four new members to its board of directors: Krystal St. Julien, Angie Tuckman, Chris Simonsen, Christi Zolezzi.
