Reckless motorcyclist causes crash

SPRINGFIELD — Just before 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, Springfield Police said an officer was traveling westbound in the  4300 block of Main Street when a man on a motorcycle passed him at a high rate of speed, while riding a wheely.

The officer attempted to stop the motorcyclist when the motorcyclist accelerated westbound on Main Street at speeds estimated over 100 miles per hour. The motorcyclist failed to stop for a red traffic light at the 28th Street intersection and collided with a vehicle turning north onto 28th Street.

The motorcyclist was transported to Riverbend hospital for treatment of serious but not life threatening injuries. The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.

The  Springfield Police Departments Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was activated to  investigate the crash and Main Street was closed for several hours.

Seavey Loop woman arrested for bias crime

EUGENE — On July 9 at about 11 a.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a mobile home park in the 34900 block of Seavey Loop Road for a report of a resident who was yelling racial slurs and throwing tools in the direction of several construction workers at an adjacent mobile home.

Deputies developed probable cause to arrest Rowena Lynn Hamilton, 61, for two counts of Bias Crime in the 2nd Degree. She was lodged at the Lane County Jail on the charges.

New shelter online tool helps reunite missing pets quicker

In an effort to help community members report a lost or found animal and receive helpful resources in a timely manner, the Greenhill Humane Society shelter has launched a Lost and Found Chat Box.

“Whether your pet slips out the door, you find a dog on your morning walk, or come across a litter of kittens, calling Greenhill for help is often the first-thing people do,” said Sarah Bouzad, Greenhill’s community engagement and events manager. “This, new on-line tool can be used 24/7 and gives an immediate response with a list of resources, next steps, and tips.”

In 2023, Greenhill had 966 pet reunions, and in 2024 so far there has been over 530 pet reunions.
