Leading off: The Thurston Colts, the reigning 5A champs, continue their title defense against Ridgeview on Tuesday, with a possible championship rematch against No. 4 West Albany on Saturday. Sophomore Grady Saunders has been the ace on the mound for the Colts, and leadoff hitter Adam Elliott spearheads much of the offense. The Pleasant Hill Billies host a semifinal game thanks to No. 1 Douglas falling in the second round, and the Billies host No. 9 Brookings-Harbor – the team that ended Pleasant Hill’s season in the quarterfinals last year. Senior Caden Richardson and the Billies did get revenge earlier this season with a 7-3 victory, and a win this time around would send Pleasant Hill to its first state title game since it won the championship in 2013.

Creswell lost its 2nd-round playoff game to No. 5 Burns, the back-to-back defending state champs, 9-0 last Wednesday. Senior Jessica Farrell had one of Creswell’s two hits on the day.

Pleasant Hill hosted No. 10 Enterprise in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs last Wednesday, with the Billies falling 9-3. Senior Raigan Obie had 2 hits and 2 runs in her final game, and senior pitcher Bella Black had 12 Ks.

Thurston traveled to No. 5 Caldera in the Class 5A bracket and lost a heartbreaker, falling 8-7 behind a walk-off single from Caldera after the Colts tied the game with 4 runs in the top of the 7th inning. Daphnie Heckel had 3 hits, 1 run, and 2 RBI in the loss, and senior Bailey Tovey had 2 hits, 2 runs, and 1 RBI.
