WEEKLY PREVIEWS
BASEBALL
#2 PLEASANT HILL (18-4)
■ Leading off: Pleasant Hill has an important doubleheader Wednesday against No. 7 La Pine, with the Mountain Valley Conference title on the line. The Billies must win one of the two games to tie Sisters in the standings, and Pleasant Hill owns the head-to-head tiebreaker thanks to a series win in early April.
#32 SPRINGFIELD (1-23)
■ Leading off: The Millers end their season with a series this week against No. 1 Thurston. It’s been a tough season for Springfield, though there have been bright spots such as junior Dylan Leas and freshman Jalen Smith.
#1 THURSTON (21-3)
■ Leading off: Thurston already wrapped up the Midwestern League title last week, but looks to extend its league win streak past 50 games with a series against Springfield this week. Senior Adam Elliott and the Colts, likely the top seed in the postseason, then find out who their title defense begins against when the Class 5A bracket releases on Saturday.
SOFTBALL
#18 COTTAGE GROVE (8-14)
■ Leading off: Cottage Grove officially made the Class 4A play-in, and will travel to face No. 12 Estacada. As of press deadline, the date for the play-in game has not yet been announced. Regardless, if the Lions want to pull off the upset and make the postseason for the first time in program history, they’ll need a top-notch game from star pitcher Emily Pacheco.
#12 CRESWELL (16-9)
■ Leading off: Creswell’s regular season is done, but the Bulldogs now wait to see their playoff fate. Round one of the postseason is Monday, with round two on May 22. Creswell holds the last first-round bye, so if the Bulldogs drop in the rankings they’ll host a first-round game Monday, otherwise they’ll be on the road for round two.
#11 PLEASANT HILL (15-7)
■ Leading off: Pleasant Hill hosts a DH vs. La Pine on Wednesday. If the Billies sweep they’ll clinch the MVC title. The Billies will be competing in the playoffs next week, with a first-round bye likely.
#26 SPRINGFIELD (7-16)
■ Leading off: The Millers close out their historic season with a series against No. 11 Thurston. Freshman pitcher Lillian Wobbe has already helped lead Springfield to its most wins since 2011.
#11 THURSTON (14-9)
■ Leading off: As long as Thurston wins two of the three games against Springfield this week, the Colts will finish second in the Midwestern League – their best finish since 2021. The Colts then wait for the Class 5A postseason bracket, as standout Bailey Tovey and the Colts will likely travel for a first-round game Tuesday.
