Nancy Lee Coughlin passed away at Riverbend Hospital in the early morning on Dec. 29, 2023. Her unexpected passing resulted from complications sustained after a fall. Nancy was born on April 5, 1933, in Grants Pass, Ore. to Clifford and Georgeina Lucas and was 90 years old at the time of her death.

Nancy attended Eugene High School and lived most of her adult life in Roseburg, Ore. where she raised her 4 children as a single mother. She spent the last 4 years of her life living with her son Kelly in Creswell, Ore.
As a single mother with only a high school education, she attended Umpqua Community College to learn the bookkeeping and accounting skills needed to support her family. She then worked and retired as a bookkeeper for Drive-n-Save Market in Roseburg. She lived a very modest life while raising her family but always found time to load up her kids in the family station wagon to head up the Umpqua River to swim for the day, or over to the Oregon Coast to play on the beaches.
In retirement, she enjoyed traveling the world with her parents, Herb and Georgeina Totman, her daughters Nancy and Kathy, and later in life, her partner, Dorlon Himber. Nancy loved to travel. She voyaged through the Panama Canal no less than 3 times and she traveled 700 miles up the Amazon River on some of those memorable trips. She had a great love for reading, especially biographies. She also loved her politics and always enjoyed a lively discussion.
Nancy mostly enjoyed the company of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, caregivers, and especially her partner, Dorlon. Most anyone that knew her would say that she had a smile that would light up any room and laugh that would brighten any day. At times she could have a tough exterior, but she also had one of the softest hearts. She had a hard life for many years and saw her way through some difficult times, but she never allowed herself to ever complain about her circumstances. She was a child of the Great Depression and knew how to weather the toughest storms.
Above all, she was loved and will be missed beyond words by all those who knew her. Her family and friends are comforted in the knowledge that she lived a full and happy life to the end.
Nancy is survived by her 4 children, Mike (Kate) Coughlin – Eugene; Kelly Coughlin – Creswell; Nancy (Randy) Chase – Seattle, Wash.; and Kathy (Matt) Kock – Lacey, Wash. Nancy also leaves 2 grandchildren; Nicholas (Katie) Coughlin; great-granddaughters Aurora and Allison (Dan) Straub; and great-grandsons Henry and WIlliam. Nancy also had 3 brothers, Craig (Della) Lucas – deceased, Mike (Shari) Totman, and Steve (Anita) Totman.
Her family will have a private memorial to be held at a later date.
