SUB: Power restoration for most will be ready by the weekend

SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield Utility Board on Wednesday announced that power restoration for most customers will be completed by the weekend. There are homes and businesses that have individual damage or that have difficult access issues that likely will take longer, the statement read.

“We know our customers are anxious for news, and we’ve appreciated their patience as we work to safely restore power to Springfield after this devastating and unprecedented storm,” said Jeff Nelson, SUB general manager.

Nelson said that those who need to make repairs at their properties before SUB can energize their lines can get a jump on the process.

“We have an emergency program in place to help electricians help these customers be ready for power restoration,” he said. Resources and more information can be found at subutil.com

Willamalane: Parks District urges safety, expectation for long clean-up efforts

SPRINGFIELD –The ice storm’s significant damage to Willamalane’s parks, paths, trails, natural areas, and parking lots means these locations could be dangerous during clean-up efforts. The  work will focus on essential tasks of clearing access routes, addressing property damage, and removing hazards such as hanging or leaning trees and branches.

Willamalane is emphasizing the importance of staying out of parks, trails, and natural areas during ongoing cleanup efforts.

“We strongly advise everyone to stay out of parks, trails, and natural areas,” said Eric Adams, Willamalane planning, parks, and facilities director. “Your cooperation is essential in ensuring safety for our community and hardworking teams.”

Volunteer efforts will be crucial to park clean-up work, officials said. The Northwest Youth Corps adult crew already has been assisting with efforts at Island Park. If you can, sign up as a Willamalane volunteer at willamalane.org/volunteer

As parks and facilities reopen and cleanup work concludes, updates and a status map will be available at willamalane.org/alerts.
