Dwarf Car nationals

coming to CG Speedway

■ COTTAGE GROVE -– The Cottage Grove Speedway will host the Dwarf Car Nationals on Aug. 12-13.

Dwarf car racing consists of 5 ⁄ 8 scale models of vintage cars from the 1920’s to the 1940’s. Four-cylinder motorcycle engines power the cars and are capable of surpassing 100mph on the straightaway. The race track is an oval shape ranging from 1/4th to 3/8ths of a mile.

Racing dwarf cars started as a hobby in Pheonix, Arizona, around 30 years ago. It has slowly become a racing class for beginners as costs for full size class racing have risen. The idea of racing smaller vintage cars has been the main attraction for fans, especially the younger audience.

The cost-per-racing lap is the lowest in all of motorsports. Around $35 per race which includes an oil change and fuel.
