Tribute: Dean Allen Wiskow

June 15, 1951 – July 11, 2023

Dean Allen Wiskow, a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and friend, passed away on July 11, 2023 in Cottage Grove, Ore. Dean was born on June 15, 1951, in Eugene, Ore. Dean was known for his kindness, friendliness, and for his love for his family and the great outdoors.

Dean married Debra Kay Wiskow on June 12,1976, in Cottage Grove, Ore. Their marriage was a testament to their enduring love, spanning 47 years. Dean was a devoted father to his two daughters, Katrina and Karla. His love for his family was evident in his every action, and he instilled in them the values of kindness and hard work.

Dean had a long and fruitful career at Weyerhaeuser lumber mill, where he spent 23 years as a barker operator. His colleagues remember him as a dedicated worker who always had a friendly word and a smile for everyone. After his time at the mill, Dean transitioned into roles as a contractor, caterer, and farmer. His work ethic and dedication were admired by all who knew him.

Beyond his professional life, Dean had a passion for woodworking, fishing, and hunting. His love for the outdoors was infectious and he shared his joy of those with his daughters and granddaughter. His woodworking skills were admired by many, and his creations will serve as lasting reminders of his talent and creativity.

Dean will be remembered for his kindness, his love for his family and his passion for life. He was called a “gentle giant” by many who knew him. He was a man who lived life to the fullest, always ready with a friendly smile, a hug, or a helping hand. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Dean is survived by his wife Debra Kay (Coonrod) Wiskow of Cottage Grove, Ore.; daughters Katrina (Tim Oyler) Wiskow Larson of Columbia City, Ore. and Karla Wiskow of Cottage Grove, Ore.;  brother Larry Wiskow of Cottage Grove, Ore.; sister Bonnie McClendon of Cottage Grove, Ore.; “little brother” Jack Bellamy of Creswell, Ore.; granddaughter Madisen Wiskow of Cottage Grove, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dean was preceded in death by both his parents, Kermit and Vaughnette (Reed) Wiskow, and brothers Eugene Wiskow and LaVern Wiskow.

A service will be held at the Elks Lodge in Cottage Grove, Ore. on Aug. 12, 2023 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to ODFW in his memory. Donations must be mailed to: ODFW, 4034 Fairview Industrial Drive SE Salem, OR 97302. The memo line of the donation should reference “Dean Wiskow – ODFW Youth Programs.”
