LTE: We owe Heyman, veterans much gratitude

Thank you for the articles about Col. Dick Heyman, one of our last remaining heroes that participated in Operation Overlord, known to many as D-Day or the Normandy invasion, June 6, 1944. So many in our younger generation do not realize the importance to our history and our freedoms. Europe was in the “prison” of Nazi occupation in 1944, and the invasion to free Europe was not a sure thing – Gen. Eisenhower had prepared a speech to give to the free world if the invasion failed. We owe our thanks to the generation of warriors, Rosie the Riveters, and all of those who made our freedoms available.

Thank you, Bob Beck, Creswell VFW Post 4039
