Keeping Springfield clean

SPRINGFIELD — A grassroots effort to “Love Where You Live” completed its second monthly clean up around Springfield last weekend. With 11 volunteers and three kids, the clean up lasted around two hours. The volunteers cleaned up around South 5th and B streets at the west end of the Booth Kelly parking lot, all the way to the Mill Race path parking lot.

“We cleaned up so much,” said Julie Sonam, clean up coordinator. “We went on both sides of the fence and all around the whole Booth Kelly area. We filled the back of the pick up and then half of the trailer. Bags were stuffed full. There were lots and lots and lots of little pieces of plastic and garbage that have been there for a long long long time.

The next clean up is on Saturday, July 1 from 9-11 a.m. at Island Park.
