Robert ‘Ed’ Dersham

It is with great sadness that the family of Robert “Ed” Dersham announce his passing on May 6,

2023. Ed passed away at home with his family at his side.

Ed was an outdoorsman through and through. He grew up in Creswell, Ore., loved playing basketball, fishing, and hunting. He graduated from the University of Oregon and forever remained a loyal Oregon Duck. He and his wife, Karan, later moved the family to Anchor Point, Alaska, where he fulfilled his dream of fishing and hunting in Alaska.

Ed owned and operated a fishing charter out of Anchor Point. For a time he became the radio voice of the daily fishing report on the Kenai Peninsula … always ending his report with the reminder to “keep your tip up and your line tight.”

His love of fishing led him to serve on the Alaska State Board of Fisheries from March 1997-2005, later as its chairman. In 2008, he was appointed to and served on the North Pacific Fisheries Management Council.

Health issues necessitated leaving the North Country for the warmer climate of Arizona where Ed traded in his fishing rods for golf clubs, sunshine, and warm breezes.

Ed will be forever missed by his wife, Karan, of 41 years, his sons Bert and Dave, and his three grandchildren.

A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at a later date. Remembrances may be sent to P.O. Box 8154, Tumacacori, AZ 85640.
