HSSZ: Recaps + Results/Schedules

Baseball

Cottage Grove: Cottage Grove’s sole game was a 20-2 loss at No. 10 North Bend. Christian and Micah Spear each had 1 hit and 1 run for the Lions, while Wyatt Teague drove in one run on a single in the 4th inning.

Creswell: Creswell had a big week, going 2-0 in Mountain Valley Conference play. Last Tuesday the Bulldogs beat No. 14 Pleasant Hill 3-0. Coby Contreras had 5 Ks and allowed no hits in 4.1 innings-pitched, and Cam Leonard scored twice. Then on Monday Creswell beat Harrisburg 7-6 as Contreras stole home in the bottom of the 7th inning to grab the victory. Contreras had 2 hits and 2 runs in the game.

Pleasant Hill: Pleasant Hill’s only game last week was a 3-0 loss at rival Creswell. The teams were supposed to match up again on Friday, but the doubleheader was postponed due to weather. Kaden Fisher had 12 Ks in the loss for the Billies.

Springfield: The Millers had a tough week, getting swept by North Eugene in the three-game series. Springfield lost game one last Tuesday 14-4, with Graden Williams finishing with 2 hits, 1 run and 1 RBI. Game two on Friday was the closest of the series, a 3-2 loss in walkoff fashion. Gabriel Laird pitched 6 innings and allowed only 2 runs. Saturday saw a 7-1 loss in game three, Laird leading the way with 2 hits and 1 run.

Thurston: Thurston went 2-0 against Class 6A competition. On Wednesday, the Colts beat West Salem 6-0 thanks to Connor Molony’s 11 Ks and a 5-run 5th-inning highlighted by Eli Crist’s 3-run double. Thurston returned on Thursday and beat Class 6A No. 20 Westview 8-0. Freshman Grady Saunders had 9 Ks and allowed only 3 hits in the win, while Maddox Molony had 3 hits and 2 RBIs.

Softball

Cottage Grove: The Lions only game last week was a 10-7 loss at No. 15 North Bend. Emily Pacheco had 8 Ks despite the loss, and also had 1 hit and 3 runs on offense. Addison Hitt chipped in 1 hit, 1 run and 1 RBI.

Creswell: Creswell won its 5th-straight with a 4-3 win last Tuesday over rival No. 10 Pleasant Hill. Hope Ukolov pitched all 7 innings and had 7 Ks, while Lauren Bailey and Lizabelle Osorn each had an RBI single in Creswell’s 3-run 3rd inning.

Pleasant Hill: The Billies fell to rival No. 12 Creswell last week 4-3. Bella Black had 6 Ks on the day and Chelsea McAllister scored twice for Pleasant Hill.

Springfield: It took 1,838 days, but the Springfield Millers softball team is back in the win column after a 23-11 victory in game two of the teams series against North Eugene on Saturday. April 10, 2018 Springfield beat North Eugene 6-0, and now the Millers break their 82-game loss streak against that same team. Freshman Emma Patrick-Busby had 2 hits, 2 runs and 5 RBIs, Kayla Morris had 2 hits, 4 runs and 3 RBIs, and Reagan Kumle had 2 hits, 1 run and 4 RBIs.
