Barbara Dean (Pugmire) Cavanaugh was born in the Salt Lake City, Utah area on Aug. 6, 1934 to Earl and Pauline Pugmire. She died Feb. 16, 2023 in Eugene, Ore. of lung cancer. Barbara was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Edward Cavanaugh, her parents, Earl and Pauline Pugmire, and her brother Jerry Pugmire.
Barbara was a full-time homemaker most of her life, busy helping with her kids’ activities such as Cub Scouts, Blue Birds, and Girl Scouts.
Barbara is survived by her sister Paulette Kosak of Spokane, Wash. as well as her four children, Kathryn Ann Cavanaugh of Bryan, Ohio, David James Cavanaugh (Sandi) of Santa Rosa Calif., Gary Dean Cavanaugh of Bakersfield, Calif., and Carrie (Cavanaugh) Campbell (Jon) of Junction City, Ore. Barbara is also survived by 11 grandchildren,
19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Barbara enjoyed hosting backyard barbeque parties for cherished friends and family as well as attending the senior center of Cottage Grove for weekly bingo, sewing and get-togethers. Her hobbies were sewing, camping and doll-making, and Barbara was an excellent cook. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
