Leading off : Creswell softball (9-3 overall, ranked #14) faces off against Pleasant Hill (8-3 overall, ranked #10) in a battle between two of the top teams in the Mountain Valley Conference. At the same time, Creswell baseball (1-10, ranked #37) looks to find its footing as Pleasant Hill (7-6, ranked 11) attempts to stay in contention for a top-three spot in the conference.
Baseball
Cottage Grove Lions: 5-3, ranked #22
Leading off: Cottage Grove heads to Junction City for a doubleheader on Friday in a matchup between the 22nd and 24th-ranked teams in Class 4A. In 4A, teams 9-24 make the play-in tournament at the end of the year for the final eight playoff spots. If the Lions can go 2-0 on against Junction City it would give them an advantage in the rankings come play-in time.
Springfield Millers: 4-7, ranked #26
Leading off: Springfield has a doubleheader on Saturday at North Eugene (4-9) as both teams look to stay alive in the postseason race. Seniors Noah Roemen and Gabriel Laird have continued their great season’s for head coach Jim Fryback, and will be important in the North Eugene series.
Thurston Colts: 10-3, ranked #6
Leading off: Thurston rides a nine game winstreak into its games this week. Thurston’s main competition this week is against Class 6A No. 18 Westview on Thursday. During the Colts’ winstreak underclassmen Connor Molony and Grady Saunders have been stellar on the mound.
Softball
Cottage Grove Lions: 6-5 overall, ranked #18
Leading off: Cottage Grove heads to Junction City on Friday for a Sky-Em league doubleheader. The Loins were up and down last week, and should look to find some consistency as they get into the swing of league play. Emily Pacheco has been an ace on the mound, striking out 32 batters combined in her last two starts, and will likely start one of the JC games.
Springfield Millers: 0-9 overall, ranked #31
Leading off: Springfield has a doubleheader at North Eugene (1-10) on Saturday as the Millers look to grab their first win of the season. Springfield’s remaining series this season are against top-20 teams, meaning the NE series could be its best shot at a win for the remainder of the year.
Thurston Colts: 8-5 overall, ranked #8
Leading off: Thurston’s sole competition for this week is the first game of a series against Churchill on Tuesday. Thurston looks to keep pace with Eagle Point atop the Midwestern League standings, and will need the solid offense of Sadie Decker, Gabriella Montes, and Syren Ferguson to continue.
