Boys Basketball Recaps
Pleasant Hill: Pleasant Hill had an important win in a league playoff game Saturday. The Billies beat No. 19 Sisters 50-37 to clinch the second seed in the Mountain Valley Conference. Landen Melvin led the team in scoring with 18 points, and Gavin Inglish and Brooks Wilcox both scored 11.
Springfield: Springfield’s only game last week was a 64-36 loss at No. 4 Churchill. Sophomore Vincent Trinka led the Millers in scoring with 8 points.
Thurston: Thurston played host to Eagle Point on Friday, beating the Eagles 63-44 to keep Thurston’s postseason hopes alive. Nate Stiffler led the Colts with 24 points and 10 rebounds, including 22 points and six three-pointers in the first half. Andrew Mills had 9 points for Thurston.
Girls Basketball Recaps
Cottage Grove: The Lions finished their season last week with two losses, a 58-27 loss to No. 19 Junction City and a 57-27 loss to No. 11 Marist. Against JC, Logan Zolezzi and Jaylee Lima both scored 8 to lead Cottage Grove. In the Marist loss, Adrianna Glenn scored 13, and Zolezzi and Mariah Bailey both finished with 4.
Creswell: The Bulldogs took down No. Harrisburg 58-37 on Friday to secure second place in the Mountain Valley Conference. Samairah Quinones led the way with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, Dakota Carson recorded 13 points, 8 steals, 7 rebounds and 5 assists, and Lauren Bailey chipped in 7 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals.
Thurston: Thurston had a 0-2 week last week, losing to No. 13 North Eugene 57-36 and No. 15 Eagle Point 43-32. Bailey Tovey and Stella Hall led the Colts in both games. Tovey finished the North Eugene game with 18 points, including four three-pointers, and 7 rebounds, and had another 8 points against Eagle Point. Hall recorded 7 points and 5 rebounds against North Eugene, and led the Colts against Eagle Point with 11 points.
