GIRLS BASKETBALL RECAPS
■ Cottage Grove: The Lions finally got Sky-Em League play started with a 56-43 loss against No. 4 Marshfield last Friday. Leading scorers for Cottage Grove were junior Jaylee Lima with 17 points, freshman Mariah Bailey with 11 points, and junior Summer Lebow with 8 points.
■ Creswell: It was a 3-0 week in conference play, beating Siuslaw 57-16, Sisters 45-29, and Elmira 52-45. Against Siuslaw Lauren Bailey had 15 points and 11 rebounds, Dakota Carson had 15 points, 6 assists, and 4 steals, Samairah Quinones had 14 points and 5 rebounds, and Chloe Halgren grabbed 8 steals.
■ Pleasant Hill: The Billies extended their win streak to 13 last week, the second-longest streak in Class 3A behind undefeated No. 1 Banks. Pleasant Hill beat conference foes Sisters 42-21, No. 20 Harrisburg 49-18, and Siuslaw 56-11. The wins also marked the halfway point of league play, meaning the Billies went undefeated in the first half of the MVC.
■ Thurston: The Colts had a 1-1 week in the Midwestern League, beating No. 14 North Eugene 35-31 and falling at No. 9 Eagle Point 45-39. Leaders in the win at North Eugene were Addison Nelson with 17 points and 5 rebounds, Bailey Tovey with 8 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists, Stella Hall with 8 rebounds and 3 steals, and Kylie Jones with 6 rebounds and 4 steals.
BOYS BASKETBALL RECAPS
■ Cottage Grove: The Lions had a big 2-0 week, beating Elmira 49-35 and No. 19 Marshfield 72-54 in their Sky-Em League opener. Brennen Murphy led the way against Elmira with 24 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 steals, and Cole Kishen chipped in 11 points and 4 rebounds. Against Marshfield the Lions shot 9-18 from three-point range and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds. Murphy finished with 20 points and 7 rebounds, Kishen had 15 points and 7 rebounds, Gannon Leach had 24 points on 6-10 from three, and Brayden Crump added 8 assists and 3 blocks.
■ Creswell: Creswell went 2-1 in conference play last week, beating Siuslaw 56-38 on Wednesday, losing at Sisters 51-50 in OT on Friday, and beating Elmira 41-35 on Monday. Max Velarde 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 steals against Siuslaw. Velarde added 11 points, 6 boards and 5 steals against Sisters, and Connor Hanson led the team in scoring with 16 points.
■ Pleasant Hill: The Billies went 2-1 last week, beating Sisters 55-41, losing to Harrisburg 56-52, and beating Siuslaw 85-36. Gavin Inglish scored 26 points to lead the team against Sisters, but fouled out in the loss to Harrisburg. Backcourt duo of Matthew Nguyen and Landen Melvin had great games despite the loss, scoring 15 and 12 points respectively. After the bounceback win against Siuslaw coach Darwin Terry said it was the best his team has played. Inglish finished with 25 points, including a two-handed fast-break dunk and Brooks Wilcox had 19 points.
■ Springfield: The Millers fell twice last week, losing to No. 2 Churchill 62-36 and Marist Catholic 56-43. Bryden Johnson led all scorers against Churchill with 10 points. Owen Fuller led the way for Springfield against Marist Catholic with 11 points, Isaiah Navarrete had 9 and Davonte Peterson chipped in 8.
■ Thurston: The Colts went 1-1 last week in league play, losing to No. 11 North Eugene 52-40 on Tuesday before beating Eagle Point 56-42 on Friday. Sophomore Nate Stiffler led Thurston in scoring in both games, finishing with 13 in the loss to North Eugene before putting up 21 points against Eagle Point. Walker Bonar added 11 points against North Eugene and 10 against Eagle Point.
