Where: Cottage Grove Library, 700 E. Gibbs Ave.

When: Saturdays, 10:30 a.m.

Fun with stories and songs that encourage development of early literacy skills in young children, using the guidelines from the Every Child Ready to Read program. For 3 to 5 year-olds.

There’s a super-cool new set-up on the lawn at Public House. With a new, enclosed, heated tent, customers now have a warm spot to mingle on those brutal winter nights.

To celebrate its new digs, PublicHouse is throwing a January Summer Fest from Jan. 9-15, complete with live music every day, drink specials and summertime food specials.

The live music lineup includes two bands on Saturday night, as Springfield’s own Magpie’s Pitchfork, which plays traditional Irish music with a Northwest slant, taking the stage at 5 p.m. Meadow Rue’s string band, featuring original songwriting from local talents Greg Oldson and Sarah Mazze, closes out the performance.

Among the summertime drink choices are Hawaiian Speedway Stout, Aloha Vibes and a Peach Mojito.

If you’re hungry, there’s no shortage of island fare, with food purveyors from Moi Poki Grill, Northwest Burgers Annex, Pizza Cue, Fisherman’s Market, Squacho’s Gourmet Chili & Nachos, O’My Mini Donuts, Sweet Bay Shave Ice.
