Driver arrested after hitting child in parade

A 69-year-old Oakridge man is charged with alleged third degree assault after striking a 9-year-old child with a vehicle near the intersection of South Diamond Street and West 1st Street during a holiday parade in Oakridge Saturday night, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses said Michael Edward Boardrow attempted to drive around the parade at a fast speed, LCSO stated. Boardrow disregarded both police and fire lights before hitting the child, who was handing out candy in the parade. The child was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
