Fifty first names only

We’ve had our first blast of cold recently, and Tony texted to let me know he saw the evidence first-hand. “It’s cold! I was feeding peanuts to the chipmunks in my front yard Friday, and one ran through the open door and under my couch. True story … just happened.” Is the chipmunk still in the house? “I left the door open and some peanuts on the stoop; later, it and the peanuts were gone.” …

I’ve been a part of various organizations over the past three years, from chambers of commerce to Rotary clubs to industry-related groups. At the invitation of our business coach, I’ve applied to join the Eugene Metro BNI group. Business Network International is made up of professionals across a variety of industries and small businesses who share referrals and support each other through training and proven development techniques. This Eugene group has a heavy Springfield flavor, and confirms the overlap of the people who live in Springfield, Creswell, Cottage Grove and Pleasant Hill who work and recreate in Eugene. As a two-time visitor, I’ve been able to chat with Andrew (he recently interviewed me as part of the application process), Candice, Cathy, Chris, Debra, Denise, Chase, Drue, Ed (his tailgate parties at the BMX track before Ducks home football games are legendary), Jason, Jayne, Jessa, Kristina, Kurt, Lada, Lynda, Mary, Adam, Kim, Ian, Gustavo, Briana, and Kim. …

Before the cold weather consigns us to the warm indoors, we’ve been able to get out and about and socialize a bit. A mix of these folks were part of a local cornhole tournament, tailgating before the Ducks football game, and/or bowling recently: Blake, Trista, John, Aaron, Jacob, Ariel, TJ, and Michael. …

Caught up recently with a few folks whom I hadn’t seen in a bit. Tiffanie seems to have her hands in everything these days, working out of the Bank Building in Cottage Grove. She’s the vice president of the Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce, and organizes holiday bazaars to encourage “shop local” efforts. … Matt and Nancy of Oregon Web Press will be printing the 2023 Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce’s visitors and newcomers guide. … Linda and Alma are long-time contacts who have reached out recently to “talk shop.” …

It was my pleasure to meet with Rich and Jason of Prime Time Sports Bar & Grill. I was able to hear the history of the bar and restaurant from its founder, and his son, who now runs things. Like many of us the past few years, they faced the toughest of challenges during the pandemic. …

I’m looking forward to chatting more with Robb of KPNW Radio in person. We’ve played phone tag and exchanged emails for a week or so. Stay tuned; you might hear some of The Chronicle staff on his show at some point soon. …

Alicia, a sophomore at UO studying journalism and advertising, stopped by the newsroom to get a better understanding of our operation. …

I spoke with Lawrence of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, who is advertising in the Cottage Grove Chamber magazine. We first met back in January at the Chamber’s annual gala, and it was good to catch up again. … Christine also reached out with interest regarding the guide. …

A few of us stopped by Chow on (the other) A St. in Springfield. We talked with Tye and Mitch while trying to put a dent in the huge and delicious food servings. They provided a brief history of their restaurant and bar, as well as a few challenges being located a block off of Main Street. It’s well worth the extra few steps …

Bill, Amy, Kelly, Javan, and Sabrina all touched base this month to talk about advertising, distribution, and other business-related tasks.
