Lowell Chapman Davis, 100, of Creswell, Ore. passed away on Oct. 20, 2022. Lowell was born in Lorane, Oregon April 4, 1922 to parents Alva and Anna (Chapman) Davis. He graduated from Lorane High School in 1940, and then joined the United States Navy during World War II.
After serving in the military, Lowell worked with his dad as an independent timber cutter. After working with his dad, Lowell joined brother Gene and together they were independent contractors cutting timber.
He married Ethel Marie Smith on July 1, 1948 in Reno, Nev. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, winning state championships for many years, even in his later years in life, he was still winning.
Lowell was an excellent golfer and even had a hole-in-one at the Oakway Golf Course. He was a hunter extraordinaire, and he loved woodworking, carving and making walking sticks. Lowell was a great bowler and won many trophies during his competitions. He liked to bicycle and run around the golf course when he was in his ‘90s. Lowell loved all animals, especially his cats. He would tell his family that, “animals are smarter than humans.”
He was a member of the Oregon Horseshoe Pitchers Association, and a member of the Cottage Grove Moose Lodge many years ago.
Lowell is survived by his daughter Toni Davis-Brannon of Myrtle Creek, Ore.; son Daniel (Sandra) Davis of Creswell; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers Darroll and Gene, sister Donna and step-son Darrell Cox.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 28, 2022 at 1 p.m. at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. Interment will be at Fir Grove Cemetery following the service. Arrangements by Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
