Wednesday, Nov. 2 – Girls Soccer
- (7) Riverdale 1, (10) Pleasant Hill 0. A scoreless first half set the stage for an exciting first round game. Ultimatley, Riverdale prevailed with a second-half winner, and the Billies season came to an end.
- (11) La Salle Prep 3, (6) Springfield 0. Springfield fell in the first round to La Salle Prep, last year’s 5A finalists. Goalscorers for La Salle were Sydney Spotts, Emelia Warta and Brooke Wilkinson. Springfield goalkeeper Alexi Morgan had multiple great saves to keep the Millers competitive, including saving a penalty in the first half.
- (2) Thurston 4, (15) Mountain View 0. The Colts controlled the tempo all game and blanked Mountian View. Goal scorers for Thurston were: Yocelin Florido (2x), Rainey Simmons and Abigail Fitzpatrick.
Tuesday, Nov. 1
- (10) Springfield 1, (7) Ridgeview 0. The Millers upset the 7th-seeded Ridgeview Ravens. Springfield moves on now to face #2 McKay.
Saturday, Oct. 29
- (15) Siuslaw def. (2) Pleasant Hill 3-2 (25-22, 20-25, 25-15, 18-25, 15-12). For the Billies, Cheyenne Green had 29 kills, 7 blocks (2 solo) and 21 digs; Claire Crawford had 3 aces, 39 assists and 14 digs; and Emily Krauss had 8 kills and 18 digs.
- (7) Creswell def. (10) Coquille 3-1 (23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-20). The Bulldogs were led by Lizabelle Osborn with 17 kills and 14 digs, Kimberlee Kelsey with 38 assists and 3 blocks, Samairah Quinones with 10 digs and nine kills, Ashelyn Sharkey with 11 digs and Kendyl Whitson with 8 kills and 2 stuffed blocks.
- (7) West Albany def. (10) Thurston 3-2 (25-18, 25-20, 25-27, 21-25, 15-10)
- (14) Valley Catholic 2, (19) Pleasant Hill 1 (Boys Soccer 1st Round). Pleasant Hill boys soccer season ended with a first round loss to (14) Valley Catholic. A record breaking career for Adrian Arellano ends with 90 career goals, a state record.
- Phoenix 4, Cottage Grove 1 (Boys Soccer Play-ins). Cottage Grove boys soccer lost a play-in game to Phoenix 4-1. The Lions were down 4-0, but scored in the last 15 minutes of the game as Aldo Rea dribbled and crossed to Wyatt Pepiot for the goal. Jace Meyer made his first career start at goalkeeper for Cottage Grove, and still managed five saves.
Thursday, Oct. 27
Cross Country League Championships:
The Cottage Grove Lions boys cross country team won the Sky-Em league championships on Thursday at Lane CC thanks to four top-10 finishers. Senior Jaden Owens, the Lions best runner all season, took second place with a time of 16:28.50, while sophomores Carter Bengtson (16:41.15) and Kobi Prenevost (18:04.70) took third and seventh, respectively. Senior Brennen Murphy took 10th with a time of 18:16.49, and the Lions won the title with a team total of 38 points. Marshfield came in second with 43 points thanks to Alexander Garcia-Silver winning the meet with a time of 15:11.40. Cottage Grove’s girls team had a stellar performance as well, taking second place thanks to two sophomore’s, Allison Palluck (22:12.93) in seventh and Bella Keating (22:24.20) in eighth.
In other Thursday results, Pleasant Hill girls took third place in the 3A/2A/1A Special District 4 championships. The Billies were led by two freshman, Ellie Epperson (21:41.50 ) in 11th and Soleis Jones (22:10.31) in 15th. The Pleasant Hill boys took fifth as sophomore Vedder Anderson finished eighth with a time of 18:29.94.
Creswell also competed in the Special District 4 championships. The Bulldog boys were led by Carson Williamson (19:18.85) in 14th and Jaden Peek (19:25.17) in 16th. The girls top three finished in places 24-26 as Kylie Leonard (22:47.53), Kaylee Gardner (22:47.86) and Brooke Moehlmann (22:51.40) led the team.
Wednesday, Oct. 26
Cross Country League Championships:
Springfield boys took third place in the Midwestern League Championships. The Millers were led by junior Owen Fuller in 9th with a time of 16:37.8, junior Conner Lamb in 13th with a time of 17:18.0 and senior Ryan Hass in 17th with a time of 17:39.0. The Springfield girls took fifth place, led by junior Carrie Babcock in 10th with a time of 21:24.3 and freshman Halle Wing in 21st with a time of 22:17.4.
Thurston also competed in the Midwestern League Championships Wednesday. The boys and girls teams took sixth place. The boys were led by freshman Carson Buergey in 15th with a time of 17:29.3, while the girls were led by senior Breanna Raven in 6th with a time of 20:27.5 and senior Stephanie White in 15th with a time of 21:39.1.
Tuesday, Oct. 25
- Philomath defeated Cottage Grove 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-12) in a 4A Volleyball Play-in, ending Cottage Grove’s season.
- Santiam Christian defeated Creswell 7-0 in a Girls Soccer play-in game, ending Creswell’s season.
