VOLLEYBALL
■ No. 7 Creswell suffered its first defeat of the season, falling last Tuesday to No. 2 Santiam Christian. The Bulldogs bounced back and took down No. 10 Siuslaw. Against the Vikings, Kimmy Kelsey had 3 blocks, 7 kills, 2 aces, and 17 assists; Lizabelle Osborn had 13 kills; Lauren Bailey had 4 aces and 3 kills; Ashelyn Sharkey had 17 digs; Kendyl Whitson had 4 kills and 3 blocks; and Kyla Ellis 2 blocks and 5 kills. The Bulldogs fell twice more, once to Yamhill-Carlton and a hardfought loss to No. 1 Sisters. In the loss to Sisters, Osborn had 21 kills, 2 blocks and 9 digs; Sharkey had 21 digs; Kelsey had 20 assists; Whitson had 2 aces, 4 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces; while Ellis finished with 6 kills and 3 blocks.
■ No. 9 Thurston beat No. 20 Churchill 3-0 before a double-header on Saturday. The Colts were swept by No. 5 Crater before sweeping Eagle Point.
■ No. 15 Pleasant Hill went 2-1 this week, all sweeps. The Billies beat Elmira, fell to No. 1 Sisters and handled Harrisburg.
Springfield had a tough week, going 1-2 with both losses coming to top-15 teams. The Millers lost to No. 12 North Eugene and No. 5 Crater, but did pick up a win against Ashland.
■ Cottage Grove went 1-3 on the week, losing in straight sets to No. 2 Cascade, Klamath Union and Philomath before finally picking up its first win of the season against Madras.
BOYS SOCCER
■ No. 6 Cottage Grove went 2-0-1 on the week, tying North Eugene 1-1 before dominating Klamath Union 6-3. The Lions then hosted undefeated Cascade and beat them 3-2.
■ No. 13 Springfield had only one matchup this week, a 4-3 loss against No. 9 Corvallis.
■ Thurston fell to 6A No. 16 Clackamas 3-0 before picking up its first win of the season, a 3-2 win at North Bend.
■ Pleasant Hill dominated this week, beating Elmira 8-0, led by 5 goals from senior Adrian Arellano. The Billies then faced Creswell on Monday and dominated again, this time 5-0. The Billies somehow remain ranked outside the top 20, despite a dominant 4-1-1 record.
GIRLS SOCCER
■ No. 2 Thurston suffered its first loss of the young season, a 3-1 loss against 6A No. 10 West Salem. The Colts bounced back and handled North Bend 3-0.
■ No. 13 Pleasant Hill beat Siuslaw 6-0. The Billies were led by senior forward Paige Schenfeld who had two goals, while senior Savannah Endicott, sophomore Jordan Pierzina, and freshmen Trinity Smead and Ryan Thomas all had one goal apiece. PH then hosted No. 6 Central Linn and fell 2-1 after two late second half goals by the Cobras. Smead had the Billies only score while freshman GK Kenna Caldwell had 5 saves in goal.
■ No. 14 Springfield took care of business in its sole game this week, beating Corvallis 1-0.
■ Creswell fell to Santiam Christian 4-0 before playing Monday and dominating a winless Elmira 7-2.
■ Cottage Grove had an 0-3 week, losing two of those games to top 10 teams. The Lions lost to Phoenix 4-0, No. 9 Klamath Union 4-2 and No. 4 Henley 2-0.
