Two Creswell players – Tanner Frieze and Kayden Roberts – are on the 13-under Willamette Valley Babe Ruth All-Star team that qualified for the World Series after winning the regional championships in Ferndale, Wash., this past Friday.

Willamette Valley started pool play on Monday against South Douglas, dismantling them 12-0 in what would be a sign of more to come, as its second pool-play game was a 15-0 win against Kelso.

It took until their third game against Columbia Basin for a team to finally score, but it still won 13-4 before getting back to its shutout ways in the fourth and final pool-play game against Stilly Venom, a 15-0 win.

The team then advanced to the bracket-play semi-final game against Helena, where it won 11-0, and then finally the championship game versus Whatcom Prep

– a 4-1 victory.

“The team had four complete-game shutouts and pitching was amazing for the entire tournament,” said Angela Frieze, mother of Tanner.

The team is headed to Glen Allen, Va., for the World Series on Aug. 9-20.

The team is seeking fundraising to help pay for the trip to Virginia. Fans and supporters can utilize a Venmo account or visit a GOFundMe  page. There also is a drop-off box at The Bean Hopper in Creswell accepting donations.
