Larry Gene Morphew: Dec. 5, 1948 – May 4, 2022

Larry Gene Morphew of Springfield passed away May 4, 2022, he was 73. Larry was born Dec. 5, 1948, in Nashville, Alaska to Preston and Charlene (Johnson) Morphew. He lived in Kirby, Alaska until September of 1951 when the family moved to Springfield, Ore. 

Larry attended Springfield High school and excelled in auto mechanics. He graduated in 1968. Larry was well known as a master mechanic. He worked for Springfield Buick and Dunham Oldsmobile in the late 60’s and 70’s, and then he worked as a diesel mechanic at Roberts Motors for 33 years until his retirement in 2013. 

Larry met Cassie in 1979. They married in 1983 and spent 43 wonderful years together. His hobbies included classic Chevy cars with a special love of classic Corvettes. Larry had many friends and loved to spend time with them talking about cars. 

He is survived by his wife, Cassie; daughter, Cindy Turner & Sheri Swain; sons Randy Morphew & Byron Dompier; sister, Judy Ray; brothers, Leon (Amy) Morphew & Jerry (Rhonda) Morphew; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. 

There will be a celebration of Larry’s life on July 16 at Lively Park, in the picnic area on Thurston Road in Springfield from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. There will be a Potluck and the family invites his friends and family to drive their classic cars. There will be a cruise to Finn’s after the celebration in honor of Larry if you would like to join.
