Attempted child abduction incident ends with suicide

SPRINGFIELD – An observant community member witnessed an attempted child abduction on June 6 near Daisy and South 48th streets in Springfield.

The child has been located and is safely at home with their family; however, after a police pursuit, the suspected abductee died by suicide.  

Springfield Police were tipped off at 4:18 p.m. on Monday, after the resident watched and then followed the suspect, later identified as Tanner Hoover, 28, of Ashland. 

Hoover attempted to flee the area near Camp Creek Road and Hwy 126, and when law enforcement located and attempted to contact the suspect via a traffic stop, he stopped his vehicle and took his own life.

Police are asking that anyone who has seen Hoover in the past 10 days to contact SPD at 541-726-3721 or [email protected].
