Jeryl Lynn Lund: April 10, 1945 – May 22, 2022

Jeryl Lynn Lund died peacefully in her home on May 22, 2022, surrounded by her immediate family.

Jeryl was born on April 10, 1945, in Salem, Ore., to Charles and Ila (Versteeg) Strickfaden. She grew up in Salem and spent many weekends camping and fishing the cascade lakes with her family.

She graduated from North Salem High School, class of 1963 and attended Oregon State University. Jeryl was married to Doug Lund on June 18, 1965 in Salem.

A business opportunity soon materialized for the couple, and they moved from Portland to Cottage Grove and Doug joined the Smith Funeral Chapel. Doug and Jeryl later purchased the business and changed the name to Smith-Lund Chapel in 1965. In 1977 they purchased Mills Mortuary, also located in Cottage Grove, and the two companies were combined at the Mills site. The business name was changed to Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.

Doug and Jeryl formally retired after more than 40 years of service to the community in 2004. After Jeryl’s retirement, she spent her time out of the community eye, traveling in their RV, reading, cooking, working in her flower garden and spending time with her family. While on fishing and camping trips, it was not uncommon for her to be the only one catching a fish.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years Doug; Krista (daughter) and Jason Wamhoff of Longwood Fla.; Marc (son) and Christina Lund of Eugene Ore.; and grandchildren Amanda Watkins, Hayden Wamhoff, Jacksen Lund, Nicholas Lund and great-grandson Rylan Springer. She is also survived by her sister Terry and Mike Morrill of Mesa, Ariz. as well as several nieces and nephews.

A memorial reception was held at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel & Crematorium. A private interment was held in Fir Grove Cemetery, Cottage Grove. Contributions in memory of Jeryl can be made to the Cottage Grove Community Foundation, PO BOX 1326, Cottage Grove, OR 97424.
