I have served in the state legislature since 2013. During that time, I have strived to always work in a bi-partisan manner, respecting our differences while striving to find common ground. I have an open door and will listen to and discuss all sides of any issues.
I advocate for changes to legislation that better reflects the district I represent. My style is not to grandstand but build coalitions to support important programs. Any success in the Legislature is only possible by getting other House members to support issues, takes at least 31 votes, and then ultimately to find support in the Senate and with the Governor.
In addition, I recognize that change does not happen as quickly as any of us might like, hence I collaborate with my colleagues to make at least incremental changes and then observe how that helps. I recognize I am not an expert in most areas, so I rely on my colleagues, on leaders and citizens in my community and on studying the issues to form my opinion and my final vote.
The other key for me is understanding that issues change over time, therefore I should be willing to understand those changes and work to change current laws or support new ones to better address those changes.
My success is only possible best on the trust and support of my constituents and my colleagues in the Legislature.
