Creswell students can apply for Lane Electric scholarship

■ Creswell residents are invited to apply to Lane Electric scholarship program. Applications are officially open for Lane Electric’s 2022 scholarship program! This is an opportunity for Creswell-area students and professionals. 

Each year Lane Electric offers over $20,000 in scholarships to help members begin their college journey or return to seek a new career. Lane Electric members and their dependents could be rewarded with money to help attend Lane Community College, Vocational Outdoor Line Training Academy (VOLTA), or a college of their choice. Applications are due by 1 p.m., Thursday, April 7. For more information and to apply, go to laneelectric.com.

Grad rates: Oregon’s graduation rate for the class of 2020-21 is 80.6%, the second-highest graduation rate recorded in the state, based on data released Jan. 20 by the Department of Education. The 80.6 represents an uptick from the most recent, pre-pandemic rate of 80.0 for the class of 2018-19, but a 2% decrease from last year. Other key findings: Students participating in a Career and Technical Education course significantly exceeded the statewide average, graduating at a rate of 92.9%. Students who have successfully completed English Learner programs in Oregon graduated at 84.2%, 3.6 percentage points higher than the statewide average; Black/African American students’ graduation rate of 73.5% was down from 76.3% the year before, but still higher than the 70.4% graduation rate for the Class of 2019; Hispanic/Latino students’ graduation rate of 77.0% was down from 79.5%the previous year, but still higher than the 76.2 graduation rate for the Class of 2019; and the graduation rate for students experiencing homelessness dropped 5% to 55.4%, the same rate as the Class of 2019.
