Jo Stejskal: April 11, 1936 – Nov. 4, 2021

Jo Stejskal (Etha Jo DeFoor) was born to R.R. DeFoor and Pauline Sizemore in Boles, Ark., on April 11, 1936. The family moved to Springfield, Ore. in 1943. She was graduated from Springfield High School and tied for third place academically in 1955. Jo went into the Marines after attending a couple of terms at the University of Oregon and met her future husband, John David Stejskal. They were married for 20 years and had four children: James, Gary, Susan, and Catherine.

Jo went on to work at Lane Community College (LCC) for 23 years and worked her way up to the position of head of the grounds department. She was actively involved with the AFT union as the grievance chair for the LCC union. She was also a longtime member of the Region 8 American Daylily Society.

She was known for being an avid and extensive traveler. Jo believed that anyone could afford to travel if they really wanted to and saved accordingly. Her two favorite and repeat destinations were Egypt and Italy.

Jo spent her retirement reading, gardening, and taking care of her grandchildren.

She is survived by two brothers, Ruben and Tommy DeFoor, four children, four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
