Springfield Police respond to shooting, man jailed

SPRINGFIELD —  Springfield Police responded to a shooting at an apartment complex in the area of Prescott and West Centennial on Nov. 18 around 4:30 p.m., where a man was found alive with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Responding officers and detectives secured the scene and started identifying witnesses, some of whom were able to identify the shooting suspect by name.  Additional responding units started checking the area for the suspect.  Based on witness statements, and assistance of a Springfield Police K9, the suspect was tracked back to an apartment in a neighboring apartment complex.

The apartment was surrounded and eventually contact was made with two people inside. Both complied with directions given by police and exited the apartment. The second occupant to exit was the shooting suspect, 30-year-old Jason Grayson.  Grayson was taken into custody without incident.

Grayson was later lodged at the Lane County Jail on multiple charges including: Attempted Murder, Assault I, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful use of a Weapon. Grayson also had multiple warrants out for his arrest.
