The Springfield Utility Board plans to hold public hearings in November and December on the proposed 2022 Utility Budget; due to increased capital and operating costs, SUB is proposing an overall 5.0 percent water rate increase with a proposed effective date January 1, 2022 on all bill statements rendered on or after February 1, 2022; a proposed 2.0 percent electric rate increase with a proposed effective date April 1, 2022 on all bill statements rendered on or after May 1, 2022; as well as a proposed 2.5 percent dark fiber rate increase with a proposed effective date of April 1, 2022 on all bill statements rendered on or after May 1, 2022.
The first public hearings will be held during the regular Board meeting on Wednesday, November 10, 2021. The purpose of these first public hearings is to gather public input. No action will be taken at the November 10 Board meeting. The second and final public hearings will be held at the regular Board meeting on Wednesday, December 8, 2021. Following the second public hearings in December, the Board is expected to consider adoption of the proposed 2022 Budget, as well as consider adoptions of proposed water, electric, and dark fiber rate increases for 2022. The November 10, and December 8, regular Board meetings will begin at approximately 6:00 p.m. and the public hearings will be held under Business from the Board.
Information on the proposed budget and proposed rate increases will be available for public review prior to the public hearings on SUB’s website at www.subutil.com. The public is invited to join the public hearings remotely during the regular Board meetings via phone or internet.
