Creswell HS ball fields suffering damage; CSD seeks greenskeeper

CRESWELL – Groundskeeping has fallen below standard, said Mike Johnson, superintendent for Creswell School District, at the May 12 school board meeting. The biggest landscaping challenge at Creswell High School has escalated into what Johnson called “a mafia undertaking of moles,” as well as other runaway maintenance issues.

“In the last couple of months, if you walk out there at the wrong time you’ll get dragged underground by moles,” Johnson said. “They’ll take you away.”

He said sports fields, buildings and grounds alike are in need of upkeep, and the role has fallen on the coaches to maintain the ball fields, which are infested with mole colonies. CSD is on the search for a groundskeeper this summer to help get facilities up to standard.

“Watch your ankles if you’re walking on our field,” confirmed board director Kandice Lemhouse-Worsham. “I encourage any board members that don’t spend a lot of time on our fields to go walk around because it will become very apparent why we need these roles in our district.”
