The nominees were recently announced for the Rooster Blues Awards. The winners in each category are expected to be revealed in early June.
The annual competition, sponsored by the Rainy Day Blues Society, is a nod to Gavin “Rooster” Fox, who was only 51 when he lost his battle to ALS in 1999.

Rooster not only was the longtime host of the weekly Rooster’s Blues Jam and DJ of KLCC’s Blues Power program, he was a beloved friend, mentor, sports fan and blues historian to so many who knew him.
Unlike the judged Blues Challenge, the Rooster Awards are community-based honors.
All nominees are submitted by the community, and the nominees are reviewed and then voted on by the Rooster Awards Review Panel.

Since the start of April, the Village Green has returned to a sense of normalcy — which is to say that the Cottage Grove hotspot is back to hosting live entertainment seven nights a week.
The lineup of artists is vast and diverse, including country, rock, blues and jazz artists and more. It also includes a music-comedy variety act by Bret Lucich on April 23 and 24, then on April 29, a variety show by Bobby & Julie.
